The Official Journal of the National Rifle Association, America's 1st Freedom, has established an annual award dedicated to the recognition of members who are devoted and active defenders of Second Amendment rights, patriotism, and family and community freedoms. In January of 2001, the journal featured the recipients of the award, Mike Goshinski of Fin, Feather & Fur Outfitters, and Rick Daniel, special assistant for law enforcement at the South Carolina Attorney General's office. Both men have impressive accomplishments as leaders in the fight to protect and uphold the many issues of firearm rights.
Mike Goshinski and wife Tammy own and operate Fin, Feather & Fur Outfitters with the help of their son Matthew. The Fin employs ?? Ashland, Ohio residents, all of whom support the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Through Mike's work with outdoor recreation and the shooting sports, he became interested in safe gun ownership, joining the NRA shortly after taking over as the proprietor of the Fin in 1986. As a businessman, he discovered he had a voice in changing the perception of gun owners, hunters and sportsmen. Goshinski has established himself as a respected organizer, sponsor and supporting activist, and has effected positive media coverage on a wide range of issues such as conservation, hunter education and gun safety.
